Using SMTP instead of php mail

I’m guessing Flasherize is using the php.ini settings to send emails for new registrations and lost passwords. Is there a way to manually set and SMTP server for the script to use, instead of the mail function?
Thanks

Not at this time and it's not something we have considered offering extra options for.
Is there a special reason you don't want your server to send mail with it's default settings?

It's just that sometimes PHP has trouble sending emails under Windows. But I did find a workaround.
